WHO Flags Seven Indian-Made Medicines as Toxic

The World Health Organization (WHO) has flagged seven medicines manufactured in India as toxic. The medicines, which include syrups, cough medicine, paracetamol, and vitamins, have been linked to more than 300 deaths worldwide.

The WHO said that the medicines were contaminated with high levels of heavy metals, including lead, mercury, and arsenic. These metals can cause serious health problems, including poisoning, organ damage, and even death.

The four medicines manufactured by Haryana-based Maiden Pharmaceuticals were linked to the deaths of approximately 70 children in Gambia. The two medicines manufactured by Noida-based Marion Biotech were linked to the deaths of two children in Bangladesh. And the medicine manufactured by Punjab-based QP PharmaChem was linked to the death of one child in India.

The WHO has advised people to stop taking the seven medicines immediately. They have also asked countries to recall the medicines from the market.

The Indian government has said that it is taking the matter seriously and that it is conducting an investigation into the matter. The government has also said that it will take action against the manufacturers of the medicines.

This is the latest in a series of incidents involving the safety of Indian-made medicines. In 2017, the WHO flagged 10 Indian-made medicines as toxic. And in 2018, the Indian government recalled more than 1,000 batches of medicines after they were found to be contaminated.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of Indian-made medicines. The WHO has said that it is working with the Indian government to improve the quality control of Indian-made medicines.

In the meantime, people should be cautious about taking Indian-made medicines. They should only take medicines that have been approved by the Indian government and that have been manufactured by reputable companies.
